As I was talking about decorating in my last post I thought I should pop up some pics of the canvas I plan to embellish.
A) As it'll help you envisage what the colours may look like.
B) As I thought some Bloggers may like to see my house (I love house snooping!)
So, here goes...
 |
| Bedroom: View from door. I'd really like an art deco mirror for my dressing table, one of those big 3 piece ones. Just off to the left of this picture is a wall of cupboards. where, strangely, the kitchenette would have been had this flat been used as guest accommodation when the place was a Tennis Retreat |
 |
| Bedroom: View from window... I'm not a fan of the pink walls! But a green scheme with black and white furnishings should look Art Deco-ish? |
 |
| Bedroom: View from bed. I am a fan of my kimono, Roberts radio and vintage suitcases! |
 |
| Hall/Study: This is my favourite room in the house as it's transformed from a hallway to a small study, just by adding some shelves and a drop leaf table (which sturdily holds my sewing machine, when I've the inclination to get it out of the cupboard!) |
 |
| Hall/Study: View from living room... Could such a small space pull off a vibrant Yellow? |
 |
| Living room: View from kitchen. Again, I'm thinking a lovely sunny yellow and keeping the woodwork and white bits white |
 |
| Living room: Another view from kitchen |
 |
| Kitchen: View from living room. could I paint the kitchen units and breakfast bar white too? Or would that be a nightmare to maintain? I just dislike the brown backing to the breakfast bar. |
 |
| Kitchen: Pink splash back tiles... pink? Hmmm, really not that keen. Check out my well Art Deco Microwave and classily chipped crckery!! |
Who lives in a house like this.. Bloggers, it's over to you! ;)

ENVY ALERT!!!!!!!
If ONLY i lived in a place like this! I have to make do with a 1950's build. *huff* Saying that - I love my flat, especially my front room (which is why it is the only thing to really appear on my blog - along with the back drop of my fridge for outfit posts)
I think maybe you are right about the hallway - now seeing a pic of it, maybe such a dark yellow would be too much. A lighter version should be lovely though?
As for the woodwork in the kitchen, I think white, or some variation, would work a treat. It would really lift it. If it is solid wood, it should be ok to paint it and waterproof it. As for the splash back - I read another bloggers post about how she made her own out of waterproofed wallpaper - it looked lovely - and really different.. ill try and find it on my dashboard..
And. I want your bed. And dressing table. And chest of drawers. Actually - can I just have your whole bedroom please?
Ello poppet: Bed: Ikea... yes IKEA! and they still do it :)
dressing table and drawers I've had since I was a dot, it's a repro and a bit shabby now, but I like the shape. want to pop on new handles but the current ones have really damaged to drawers, so I need to restore it 9and haven't the foggiest how!)
You should come over for tea and can borrow my bedroom. I'll make sure the Chas is not in it, as he's ruin the ambience! ;) xx
Were also in the middle of big time decorating. The house was built in 1947 and were trying to make it look like that after we dispose of all signs of the 80s!
Ha ha ha! :) Ikea you say... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :)
Oh - found the blog I was talking about. Its the lovely Toria at Welsh Pixie

How lovely! My house needs more vintage stuff in it, but his Lordship has only just recently admitted that he 'likes old fashioned stuff'. I love doing housey things during the winter months!
Love those vintage suitcases! I can't wait til I move and have a new pad to fill full of vintage stuff.I have acquired a gorgeous vintage dressing table that I can't wait to post about. I love your bed, it reminds me of an old hospital bed.

I love both the colours you are talking about. If you grab some paint charts you will be able to tell the exact shade of green you want - I think you are talking about a kind of warm muddy green rather than a cold vibrant hue. And I love cheery yellow too, and the good thing is that with both of them you can accessorise with simple black and mirrored accessories. I don't know what you are planning to do with the floors, but it was common to paint them black - I think that would look really smart. And I don't think yellow is a problem with the hall, sometimes a bright colour is nice in a small room. Lets face it, nothing you do will make it look any bigger, and at least if it is the same colour as the living room there is continuity.
I am very jealous I must say, I would love my own house to do things to. Have found some pictures you might want to look at:

ps, also you can get tile paint if you are looking for a quick fix. Just paint the pink tiles white if you can't replace them quite yet.
Well I'm a fan of colour, so I think yellow would be lovely, I really don't subscribe to all the horrible interior decorator rules, I say rules are meant to be broken, I even had a red wall in the bedroom, which apparently is a no no, PAH I say!
Yellow always cheers a place us, it's just getting the right shade, we once painted my mum's kitchen yellow - and bear in mind I love colour - woke up the next morning and nearly yakked, it just wasn't right but with tester pots there shouldn't be too much room for error!
GOOD LUCK!
Thanks for the peek inside your pad. I love looking around other people's houses. I have exactly the same kitchen units as you, they had been recently installed when we moved in. I'm currently toying with the idea of painting them powder blue. I quite like your pink kitchen tiles, much better than the horrid black ones we were left with!
I have that same bed! I think the green colour scheme would look fabulous in your bedroom. What about a bold wallpaper in the hall/study area? It might be a hard space to wallpaper but I think it could look fantastic. I can't wait to see your results, especially the kitchen since my favourite kitchen colour scheme is sunny yellow and white! :)
Ello all.. thank you fo all the tips and lovely comments. Roll on pay day so that I can start saving for decorating! :D x
P.S Thanks for the links to penny and Landgirl :D
