Bang Bang?

I have been toying with the idea of getting bangs cut into my jaw length bob, a la Louise Brooks. but really can't decide. It sounds a bit silly worrying about just doing it, but the thing is my hair takes forever to grow (I had it cropped super pixie short back in 2005... it's taken 5 years and lots of tufty hair-dos, to get to the length it is now.
Other factors are...
  • The majority of my wardrobe is 30s so would the bob match? (Not that it matters, as I guess being a bit eclectic is OK, but when I had cropped hair none of my clothes looked the same anymore)
  • I've heard bangs are a pain to keep in check
  • Is my face too wide?
  • Is my hair to fine? (it's very fine and can look a bit limp at times)
  • Does the bob need to be all the same length? I have different lengths in my hair as it's still growing out from the crop of doom.
  • Am I the wrong body shape? Brooksie was so sylph like and elegant, I'm hardly that, having hips n boobs n'all, I'm also not very tall... I love Hayley Atwell's bob in Brideshead Revistited, and she's got curves (oh she is bloomin' gorgeous, and a good actress, am loving her in "Any Human Heart" on TV atm.) However, she's taller than me, and has a mass of gorgeous dark hair. (But then I guess it could be a wig, but in real life her hair looks luciously thick and glossy, as opposed to my reddish brown flyways.)
Anyway, any opinions would be greatly appreciated.the other half just said "whatever you want sweetie" ... oh he is useful!

I want her hair and dress and job

Ms. Holmes looked fab with this do

Thank you sweeties

I have two suggestions, first try on a wig with a fringe/bangs and see what you think of it.
Most importantly go and talk to your hairdresser! Any good hairdresser will give a free consultation and if you have been going to one for a few years he/she is going to know your hair best. My sister-in-law does my hair and has been invaluable over the years, gently but firmly persuading me away from something I love the look of but would never suit my face shape or my fine curly hair.

hmmm, this is the debate I have on a weekly basis, so feel free to tell me to take my own advice! (Which I am not good at doing!)

Firstly - katy holmes, I think this is the best hair cut for her imo. She pulls it off very well.

Back to you...

The bob will absolutely go with 30's wardrobe imo.

fringes aren't too hard to maintain, if you don't feel happy to trim yourself the hairdressers normally do free fringe trims inbetween cuts. Do you have a hairdreser you always use? just ask them, they will often squeeze you in. It takes less thn 5 mins, and it is good P.R for them as you will come back for the full cut & blowdry on a regular basis

Face to wide? my face shape is the main do I or don't I dilemma for me too!

Fine hair can work with a fringe, just don't expect a full thick Katy holmes one, but it will work on fine hair.

No the bob doesn't need to be all the same length, infact it will be more versatlile if it isn't ( Think how Dannii Minogue changed her bob constantly last year)

Funny you mention body shape as a lot of people don't take this into account, but to refer back to Dannii M. She is short - only 5'2 and she has magnificent boobage going on!

If you don't like it you can alwys clip it back, quiff it. alice band it - or you could do all of those things if you did like it!

Hope this helps :O)

Hmmmmm. I think this is a very definite "look". It is more than likely my uneducated mind - but I always think a bob and bangs is more of a 20's look? Like I said, uneducated.

Maybe try a wig first? Or practice with a faux bang? If your fringe is short, maybe you could try it with a long kirby grip and then fanning it out? Or a strip of material and pin it at the side? That way you could have a the best of both worlds?

But as for suiting you? I think it definitly would. But it is a big, permenant step - considering what you said about the growth time of your hair?

I got one cut at the beginning of November, it's on my facebook profile pic if you want to have a look. I was worried because I wasn't sure it was vintage enough, but you know, I really like it, everyone has said lovely things about it, so sometimes it's worth taking a but of a risk. Once you've got your make up and clothes on, you will still look vintage. I say go for it. x

Give it a go! I don't think fine hair is a problem at all - in fact it might be rather good. I had a fringe cut with my thick and wiry wavy hair, and it was a complete nightmare to keep in check and look more like fluffy poodle-bangs when I woke up in the morning.
Maybe you could do some sort of curly bangs, for some 30's variation, like ginger here: http://acertaincinema.com/workspace/media/optimized-ginger-rogers-dennis-morgan-kitty-foyle.jpg

G I forgot to mention, if your hair grows slowly give some sea kelp a go, it helps your hair grow quicker. It worked for me, and I didn't have to shave my legs more often, in case that thought popped into your head! x

I think bangs would look cute on you. I used to have bangs and I loved them. They aren't too high maintence, and if you pay attention to how you hairdresser cuts them, you can keep up the trimming yourself until you need to get a haircut again. I just gave you an award on my blog those where very good years :D

Try clip-in bangs, the real hair kind. Much more versatile.

I think a bob would really suit you! As for era, I think it could go very well with your wardrobe and make-up.

I wouldn't worry about body shape, I had a Twiggy pixie crop once and I am hardly twig-sized...yest it worked and I really loved it.

I really like my fringe, it's so easy to maintain, especially if you've got fine hair it shouldn't be a problem!
